There is lots of beautiful accommodation in Livingstone to suit a wide range of budgets and requirements. Most of the backpackers and budget accommodation is based in the town centre and you can walk the short distance from most of them into town where you can pop to the shops, a few restaurants, a couple of bars, the museum, the post office, banks and pharmacies. Jolly Boys and Fawlty Towers

Jolly Boys and Fawlty Towers are both popular back packers. The both have a swimming pool and a bar, camping facilities, rooms and dorms. Generally speaking Jolly Boys is known as a good party spot, and is usually very popular, whereas Fawlty towers is slightly quieter. Both have great access into town and can book a wide range of activities for you.

The Zambezi Waterfront

The Zambezi Waterfront is a hub of tourists and a wide range of accommodation choices from chalets to camping. It appeals to families, couples, backpackers and overlanders alike. It can get a little rowdy in the evenings as this is the drop of place from the sunset boat cruises (AKA Booze Cruises) however, has a very friendly and relaxed atmosphere. It has a full restaurant and bar, and very comprehensive activity centre. You would require a taxi to get you from the Waterfront to town or speak to the reception about booking a transfer.

David Livingstone Hotel and Spa

A little higher on the price range (but oh so worth it) is the beautiful David Livingstone Hotel and Spa. It is a beautiful hotel on the river with an infinity pool and fab cocktail deck. It is situated next to the waterfront so you would still require a taxi to get into town. With all the amenities a beautiful hotel should have (room service, spa, it’s very own posh boat cruise boat – the Lady Livingstone, beautiful rooms, extensive cocktail menu) it is a very wise choice – if it suits your budget that is.

Thorntree Lodge

There is a lodge very near to Lion Encounter called Thorntree Lodge, This is a very nice lodge, but at the higher end of the budget. It is much quieter being out of town (approximately 10 minute drive) and in the middle of the National Park is a bit more “wild”. It is a bit more private with a capacity of 12 people. It’s a very relaxing lodge (if Lion Encounter’s resident dog Trevor doesn’t wander down for some crocodile related chaos as has been known in the past!) and again is on the river’s edge. It has a little spa and a pool and the management couple are very enthusiastic about the bush and can book any activities you want to do. This is literally a 1 minute walk away from the Lion Encounter base and the volunteer house and the volunteers often pop here for a drink in the evening.

Zig Zags Bed and Breakfast and Maramba River Lodge

Zig Zags Bed and Breakfast and Maramba River Lodge are both just on the edge of the main town, but still very accessible with a taxi (walking from Zig Zags isn’t out of the question and would take probably about 15 – 20 minute walk, but not advisable from Maramba River Lodge). Both are very pleasant quiet accommodation with a bar and café and comfortable chill out areas. Maramba River lodge is on the river so you may be able to spot the occasional elephant – depending on time of year. Zig Zags has a lovely garden in which to enjoy a relaxing brunch!
